IPage Review 2018

iPage is one of the most well known web hosting plans available. Offering a number of features, pricing plans, benefits, and support, the program is generally reviewed well. We give it a 4/5 star rating overall, with Bluehost and Hostgator being superior solutions for web hosting in terms of overall quality and performance. On the whole, iPage’s shared hosting plans are fairly good, offering monthly data transfers, unlimited storage, and plenty of email addresses for your usage. However, unlike Hostgator, they don’t give you a private SSL certificate or toll free phone number as part of their package.

iPage Review

iPage offers a range of choices for shared hosting, WordPress hosting, and more. Shared hosting plans through iPage are done through annual, 2 year and 3 year plans. They have one hosting plan that is Linux based and costs $12 monthly. The company provides email addresses and data transfers each month as well as unlimited disk space, making it easy to sign up and pay for a year’s worth of service. However, their higher fees for each month are a bit more than typical shared hosting costs, making them slightly less attractive than Hostgator and Bluehost in that regard.

iPage Plans

In addition to shared hosting, iPage also offers VPS, WordPress, and dedicated hosting plans. Using the company’s dedicated servers, which start at $150 monthly, you will be able to get 15TB of data per month if you wish. However, Hostgator does offer 25TB monthly which is a higher amount — and overall better value.

iPage offers WordPress hosting as well, which starts at $10 per month. The WP Essential plan begins at $12.50 per month. It offers monthly data, email, and storage as well, with the addition of SSD storage which helps to boost load times and responsiveness. WordPress hosting through iPage also offers enhanced customer service and security, making it one of the most attractive options on the market for this type of service.

Uptime and Performance

iPage hosting offers a 2 week period for uptime, giving you the option to monitor site speed and reliability over a 2 week periods. The tool will show you a detailed break down of all site traffic and let you know if it cannot contact the server. This helps in keeping the site up and stable so you don’t have to worry about constantly checking in. However, it isn’t very good in terms of overall reliability; Hostgator and Bluehost are much more reliable.

Building Your Site

To get started creating your first website, iPage requires that you set up your interface and design the site using a template builder that is called CM4All. There is also a GoMobi site builder for mobile design. However, this service also costs $9 per month more in addition to your regular fees and service applications. They don’t tell you about this hidden fee.

Using the basic WYSIWYG builder is simple enough, but the overall interface isn’t that intuitive for building custom sites through other platforms than WordPress. For their WordPress installations, getting your site set up is simple enough. You can create your password and username and be ready to go in just a few minutes. Then you can use their interface to add photo galleries, maps, social media forms, contact buttons, and slideshows as you wish.

On the whole, iPage’s site building tool is slightly less simple to use than other interfaces, taking more time to load and resulting in less desirable yields than other web designers.

Customer Service

iPage’s customer service is done through web chat, email ticket, and phone support around the clock. Their representatives are fairly helpful and knowledgable, giving you quick answers to what you need to know. For web chat, the company is also quite standard and decent, giving you the knowledge you need to explain precisely what you should do. Their service is fairly responsive, easy to get set up, and quick to respond. On the whole, customer service is one of the company’s strong suits, giving you the answers you need in a short period of time. They also offer a full refund period over the whole time you are subscribed with them rather than over 30 days or a year like some services.

Security and Anti-Spyware Features

Setting your site up is simple enough, but making sure it is secure can be another task entirely. Fortunately, iPage offers pretty decent anti-malware and email protection, as well as restriction to server and website choices. You can add an SSL certificate for just $32 per year, which is fairly affordable. This will make sure that site users and purchasers will be able to keep their credit card data private if they are making purchases through your site. In addition, the extra layer of security given through SSL helps to build trust and show that you are willing to invest in a secure solution for your site visitors.

E-Commerce Options

Like many other web hosts, iPage gives you a choice of online store built already in to their service, as well as a limited design choice for party application. Their ShopSite service is bundled as part of another plan, giving you 5 pages and 15 products as your limit with the standard version. However, you can upgrade fairly easily to the Manager option which is $30 per month — or the pro selection, which costs $50 per month. Each choice will unlock additional features for you to build your online store.

Setting up a store itself is simple enough, using a template chooser design and editor. You can add other platforms like ZenCart or osCommerce, as well as gain the ability to choose from plenty of different payment options.

On the whole, we give iPage a 4/5 of 5 star review and recommend them fairly highly. However, Hostgator and Bluehost are still better choices in terms of performance and overall value. When selecting a web host, you want to make sure you get the best features for the money you’re investing, and iPage can offer a reasonable choice for that. If you’re just getting started setting up your first site, this might be a decent provider to pick because of their refund policy, which lets you cancel and receive a full refund for the reminder of your time on the contract.
